Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The Clinical technologist will be responsible for preparation and care of medical equipment such as ventilators, defibrillators, ECMO, IABP, infusion devices and advanced airway equipment etc. Ensuring that all monitoring, ventilatory and infusion devices are in working order, and timeously serviced.

  • National Diploma in Clinical Technology: Critical care
  • Bachelor of Technology
  • Valid BLS is essential21
  • Valid ACLS and/or PALS will be an advantage
  • 2 - 5 Years working experience in the same position

  • Working experience in private healthcare or healthcare funding industry will be advantageous
  • Relevant experience in the Theatre is essential
  • Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation

  • Computer Literacy essential
  • Daily checking and restocking of the emergency trolleys, and monthly checking of expiry dates
  • Daily checking of Medication Fridge temperatures
  • Perform hemodynamic monitoring (ECG, arterial and venous pressure, temperature respiration, oxygen 
    saturation)
  • Setting up and transducing for Intra- Cranial Pressure
  • Perform cardioversion and defibrillation and external pacing
  • Blood gas suppling and analysing
  • Preparations and setting up of infusions
  • Sterilization of ventilators and other components
  • Preform capnography
  • Setting up for, and application of CPAP machine
  • Perform and report 12 lead ECG
  • Preparing and assisting with the intubation of patients
  • Preparation and assisting with IABP
  • Preparation and assisting with ECMO
  • Preparation and assistance for insertion of invasive lines
  • Daily calibration of monitoring lines
  • Preparation and set-up of the transport monitors
  • Daily bedside equipment checks
  • Setting up for, and assistance with High Flow Oxygen therapy
  • Setting up for, and assistance with Cardiac Output Monitoring
  • Performing routine equipment stock control
  • PCA connection and troubleshooting
  • Assistance during emergency situations
  • Training of staff on the correct use of equipment and the care thereof
