A chef is mainly responsible for the preparation of meals in the respective hospital for patients and staff. The job of a chef will entail preparing, seasoning, and decorating meals and dishes in ways that suit the requirements or orders that are placed by customers. The chef also monitors and/or supervises the preparation and administration of meals from the kitchen by other staff members. He/she should specializes in the preparation of specific meals like salads, desserts, and pastries. The chef will be responsible for creating the menu; he/she will also makes adjustments to the menu based on the availability of food or the current season.

  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualifications
  • Certificate / Diploma Chefs Qualifications

  • Atleast two years in a similar position (Preferably in a hospital setting)

  • Strong culinary and costing skills
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of hospital catering
  • Understanding ingredients and seasonings
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Therapeutic Diets
  • Able to speak, read and understand English
  • Plating design
  • Able to work with wide range of kitchen equipment
  • Should be conscientious, reliable, honest, and punctual always. Should also use own initiative and discretion, have high energy levels and tolerance for stress
  • All functions and tasks should be performed accurately
