The Unit Manager will be responsible for coordinating Quality Nursing Care by ensuring compliance to professional and ethical practice. The incumbent will be accountable for coordinating training, development and mentoring of staff in the Unit. The incumbent will be expected to apply and manage the best and most effective operational practice by focusing on the integration of people, technology and financial drivers in ensuring that Unit costs are maintained within budget.

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree) or equivalent NQF 7 qualifications
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
  • Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable health care legislations
  • Post-basic qualification in Management will be advantageous

  • Relevant experience in Medical and Mental Unit is required
  • Relevant experience in clinical leadership is required
  • 3 or more years’ working experience in the same position is advantageous
  • Experience in Management and Clinical Leadership
  • Relevant qualification within a specialist area will be advantageous

 

• Computer Literacy essential
• Sound financial knowledge and the ability to interpret financial data
• Nursing standards
• Manage Acuities and Skill Mix in such a way as to ensure cost effective Quality Care
• Manage all costs emanating from the Departments
• Ensure correct Billing, Stock Management and Ordering
• Facilitate timeous and accurate Compilation of Files
• Ensure the units are providing safe, cost-effective quality patient care in line with the Clinical Governance strategy and evidence-based practice
• Evaluate the patient’s journey through patient experience and stakeholder input
• Evaluate Nursing Quality Indicators and Clinical Outcomes
• Communicate effectively with patients, families and parents regarding the patient’s care
• Promote health and well-being of patients and staff
• Ensure the principles of Infection Prevention and all standard precautions are adhered to
• Implementing group Quality Initiatives
• Ensure patient confidentiality
• Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
